After tapping the premium rod, nothing happened for a few seconds, so I tapped the basic rod. Then an ad started. After the ad I was soft locked by the sticker page and couldn’t leave.

I don’t remember seeing a countdown as I believe this was my first time attempting to fish.

When this happened, did you have the countdown on top of the fishing mechanic - or was it available (i.e. no countdown?)
